“if one person starts a new hardtech company, contributes to a scientific breakthrough, or takes some other risk with a potentially high civilisational payoff… we will have succeed.”

B. Hobart & T. Huber, BOOM: Bubbles and the End of Stagnation

I was reading BOOM as part of the Stripe Press Book Club this week. I think this is an excellent philosophy for Frontier Tower.

And what a week it was.
It was great to have so many amazing people at the Moonshot Forum on Friday night.

Robots, rockets and roundtables. We had an excellent evening discussing whether the greatest breakthrough for human flourishing could be unlocked in space. This isn’t without concerns, for security, sustainability, or simply high cost, but the ambition of the companies both on and off the panel was truly inspiring.

Many thanks to Vidhi for moderating, to Neil, Eddie & Katie for being on the panel, to Dorian & the MintNeuro team, Calum & James from London Biocompute*, Hassan & Elo (or bits of…) for demoing and of course Steph from 50Y for hosting us!!!

If you didn’t make it, don’t panic! We’re back with more!!!

As ever blown away by the London ecosystem. I even discovered The Next Tiramisu last night.

Have a vision for something new in the London ecosystem? Want to host an event? Want to lead a floor?
Say hi in the WhatsApp group - https://chat.whatsapp.com/CchkLAJxDNC4fF3UNf6Ei8 - or speak to Lachlan.

Noticeboard:

*London Biocompute are running a “devious biological challenge” in their cloud lab where total outsiders to biology can compete with wet lab scientists and academics. Can you find a clever optimisation strategy that beats someone with years of benchwork intuition? Could you even vibe-code your way to the top of the leaderboard?

We are hosting a series of curated +1 dinners across the different verticals of our community to create a space to share expertise from the frontiers of technology.

The robotics dinner was incredible. Next up we’ll be addressing the role of Blockchain in “How we Trust in a Post AI World” and then diving deep into NeuroTech and “Unlocking the Brain” on the 10th March, as a follow up to the London NeuroTech Hackathon.

  1. Will we finally see the 15 hour work week? The Singularity and the Nature of Work.
Almost 100 years ago Keynes predicted that technology would lead to a 15 hour work week, largely for our own sanity. We have not seen it. Might AI finally usher it in?

  2. The Death of the Author: the Nature of Authorship in the Post AI World
How can we write with AI and preserve ourselves. What about code? And design? Or do we concede? Perhaps Barthes had some uncanny prescience.
